Monster Jam 2011

Captain's CurseOur very first Monster Jam Event! When there is a little boy in the house – chances are, you have heard of Monster Trucks. This past weekend we had the opportunity to meet up with my brothers family and friends, along with good friends our ours and see Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam 2011 at the JLC in London. We picked up the Pit Party Pass tickets as well to be sure we made a full go of it, going around checking out the trucks up close and getting to meet the drivers one on one. The drivers by the way were Fantastic! Posing for pictures, and playing it up with the kids, I don’t think enough could be said about how well the drivers treated the kids during the Pit Party Pass. The show itself I’m sure it geared to the size of the venue, so it seemed rather slow being that it was in a smaller area. The motor cross show after intermission however was incredible, and I could have watched that 3-4 times longer :D Then came the Monster Truck Free Style – the part of the show everyone was waiting for, and it did not disappoint.…check out these Massive Trucks!

CNN iReport Awards

I’ve referred to freelance photographer/instructor Michael Andrew on numerous occasions on the blog; the following is a direct copy from the Michael Andrew Photography Blog:
CNN announced today the finalists for its first yearly CNN iReport Awards and I was honored to learn I am one of 5 Finalists for the Breaking News Category for the image & story I posted about Evan Monsignac, the Haitian Rice vendor who had been buried alive for 27 days and amazingly survived.
In a weird way, being nominated for something like this is really humbling for many reasons. For one, I was able to see first hand a person's amazing will to live. Second, it seemed symbolic of the strength and will of the Haitian People to rise from the destruction. Both of these are reward enough for anything. Third, I'm not even sure if this will make sense, but to me, it is almost like karma's way of saying thank you for everything else were trying to do down there with the orphanage program. I have always believed that good things will eventually happen when you try your best to help others. I didn't go down there with the intention to get a picture or a story, I really just wanted to help, and it was just a luck of the draw to stumble upon Evan shortly after he was rescued. We were rejected by just about everyone for that first week, tired, hungry, and mentally broken down- I had many doubts about being there and wanting to leave. We stuck it out, and eventually it all paid off. This nomination is really icing on the cake.
More information at Michael’s Blog at http://www.michaelthemaven.com/

Daniel & Anita

Captured Innocence Photography AD6What a way to celebrate Valentine’s!  It was a simply Gorgeous Day to celebrate as Daniel and Anita pledged their vows…and that was no easy task.  Poor Anita was so sick she could barely talk, but stalked with the right meds she made to the church on time and said her vows loud and clear for all to hear!  Congratulations Daniel & Anita!

How To Keep Your Child’s Treasures

CapturedInnocencePhotography-0455Every child is proud of their projects, whether at school, or completely made up on their own – and, parents are equally proud of their budding artist, writing, sculptor etc.….but what do you do with all of your child’s treasures?  Seriously it would take up an entire section of your home to store all of their projects.  There is a way though – and thanks to digital photography, your child’s entire collection of creations from birth on would take up less space than their first pair of shoes.  I have been doing this for some time – keeping the occasional original of course, however, simply shooting copy work of everything.  By doing so, I am easily storing the images of my child’s artwork, stories etc.  On top of recording the work digitally, the metadata included with my digital images correctly stores the dates as well.

Here’s how:  To make your copy work Very Simply – simply find a well lit space in your home, on a somewhat overcast day.  Set your camera white balance to shade. and begin taking pictures of the projects.  Soon, (after checking the final images) you will be able to know you have a great record of the work, and you will no longer need to build on that addition to house to hold your children’s little treasures.

One Talented Hubby !

CapturedInnocencePhotography-0500My husband continues to impress me with his talents!  This valentines day we will be celebrating 10 years since our first  official date with the purpose of marriage…which occurred only a few short months later.  And after 10 years, though I know him very well, he continues to break the mold !  Ralph AKA Ruphus, surprised me at Christmas with a coat rack that he designed and then then built.  Last night, the kids and I returned from swimming lessons to be surprised with the Amy and Bradley personalized coat racks!  So, I just thought I would show off my man’s handy work today on the blog (minus the coats)!  Thanks Honey!

I Shoot Raw by Fro Knows

Fro Knows - I found this site not to long ago filled with knowledge of photography and post processing skills.  Jared Polin has a very interesting story – he’s not simply an eccentric looking, wild hair guy on youtube.  Rather, he seriously has a desire to share his knowledge, and the best way to find out more about him, is to go to The Story Behind The Fro.  I would encourage you to check out the site, it’s filled with tips and tidbits, along with contests too.   Currently you can even win one of the amazing Black Rapid Straps!  Now Playing – Fro Knows – check it out by double clicking HERE!

Paul’s Great Hair Challenge

Paul Gordon Hair Challenge 2011

Legacy Lappers – A very well known team at the Annual Relay For Life in Sarnia, Ontario raising well over $100,000 for Cancer Research and The Canadian Cancer Societies outreach programs.  I know this about this team because my brother Paul Gordon has been a member of this team for a number of years now; and this year as Co-Captain he’s decided to accept the challenge to grow his hair for right up until the date of the next cancer relay this June!  Please check out the information above on how you can support the team, and Paul’s “efforts” to grow his locks as he finds new and amazing ways to style his new and changing dew!

Stop The Meter

Stop The Meter On Your Internet Use

Usage-Based Billing Meter

Once Again, we are going to get hit with Additional Charges in our daily lives – Please take a moment and take a stand by signing the petition.  It only takes a moment, otherwise it will just be another add on for Canadians along with our rising hydro bills, the hst…

Please Go To Stop The Meter To Make Your Opinion Count Right Now.

www.stopthemeter.ca

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are about to impose usage-based billing on YOU.

This means we're looking at a future where ISPs will charge per byte, the way they do with smart phones. If we allow this to happen Canadians will have no choice but to pay MUCH more for less Internet. Big Telecom companies are obviously trying to gouge consumers, control the Internet market, and ensure that consumers continue to subscribe to their television services.

These Big Telecom companies are forcing small competing ISPs to adopt the same pricing scheme, so that we have no choice but to pay these punitive fees.

This will crush innovative services, Canada's digital competitiveness, and your wallet.

We urgently need to send a clear message to Ottawa, saying that we won't stand by while some of the most profitable companies in the country indiscriminately add new fees to our Internet bills. Enough is enough.

UPDATE: The Liberals and the NDP have now come out AGAINST Internet metering. We're winning, Canada - now onto the government in power!

Video Editing

After a very slow start of blogging into the new year, I believe I am finally caught up in most of my major projects – Most, not all, however, I do believe I’m back to posting a regular blog finally, and thought I would share with you a product for PC users.  I say PC users, because basically Mac users tend to stick with iMovie or Final cut as their video editing software, PC users however can sometimes feel lost in the array of products out there.  Though this may or may not be the best software – Cyberlink’s Power Director 9 Ultra is certainly a product that will do most if not everything you need for your personal and business needs.  I have been using the Power Director tools for a number of years now, and have always been impressed with their user friendly operations, and additional tools available online.  Prior to Power Director I used Pinacle, again a tremendous software however I found took a lot longer to accomplish tasks, and the time period to render a project to much longer as well.  I have also tried out Sony Vegas – again, endless options, however, I kept returning to Power Director.  To review several video editing software options, check them out here at PC Reviews.
